This document describes how to remotely update EventBoard while it is in Single Access Mode (SAM) and managed by AirWatch. You do not have to physically be at the device to perform the updates. NOTE: These steps do not apply to JAMF or other MDMs.
Below are the 2 methods to update the EventBoard app from your AirWatch console.
Recommended: To have complete control over deploying EventBoard app updates, disable “automatic updates” in the airwatch console.
If “automatic updates” is enabled, devices will automatically update to new EventBoard versions once available in the AppStore.
To deploy EventBoard updates on your own schedule (option 1), follow the instructions below.
In the Applications section, make sure that “Auto Update” has a red circle with a cross, or click the checkbox next to “EventBoard - Book, Meet, Work” and click the “Disable Auto Updates” button.
When automatic updates are disabled, you can choose to update a single device at a time, or groups of devices. We recommend ensuring that the update applies without a hitch on one device before applying en-mass.
Remote Update Step-by-step Directions depend on iOS Version
Remote updates are supported for apps in SAM if you are using iOS 11.4.x or later. If you are using an iOS version less than 11.4.x, you will need to perform additional steps.
With iOS 11.4.x or later
For tablets with iOS 11.4.x or later, the remote update process is simple; the app will automatically close, update, and then re-open. The entire process should take less than 5 minutes, but the app will be unavailable during that time, so you may want to do it after hours.
If you are using iOS 11.4.x or earlier, go to the section below labeled “With iOS 11.4.x or earlier” instead of using these instructions, otherwise you may place your device in an unusable state.
To update devices on-demand, be sure to disable “Auto Update”. See instructions above.
Go to the “Apps & Books” section, find “EventBoard” in the “purchased” tab, click the checkbox next to “EventBoard - Book, Meet, Work”, and click the “Manage Devices” button.
3. Here you will be presented with a list of devices that you can filter using the search box at the top right.
4. Check the box next to each device that you want to update, and click the “Install” button at the top. You can apply to as little or as many devices as you wish.
5. Wait. In a few minutes, EventBoard will close on these devices. The update should take less than 10 minutes. The app should relaunch on it’s own after the update completes.
With iOS 11.4.x or earlier
Edit the SAM profile for EventBoard, and change it to another application, such as the calculator application (bundle id: “com.apple.calculator”).
Tell the device to update EventBoard using the steps described below.
Go to the “Apps & Books” section,
Click on the “purchased” tab
Click the checkbox next to “EventBoard - Book, Meet, Work”
Click “Manage Devices”. AirWatch displays a list of assigned devices that you can filter at the top right. This shows the version of EventBoard that each device is currently running.
Wait until the EventBoard update is complete. Use AirWatch to determine if all devices have updated as there is no visual cue on the device itself.
Edit the SAM profile again and change it back to EventBoard.
The app will launch, and the update will be complete.
